The SocietyAlnwick Pipers' Society is a collection of people who are enthusiastic about the traditional music of Northumberland and the Borders. |

|
Traditional music has been at the heart of the local culture in our area for many centuries. Alnwick Pipers' Society tries to preserve that musical heritage for future generations by encouraging the teaching and playing of Northumberland's own unique instrument, the Northumbrian Smallpipes. The Society also actively encourages other traditional instruments such as the fiddle and accordion. |
| The roots of the Society go back to the 1940s when local musicians, including the famous Northumbrian piper, Billy Pigg, began to hold regular meetings. For many years the local musicians operated as the Alnwick Branch of the Northumbrian Pipers' Society, the much larger mother organisation for Northumbrian pipers which has members all over the world. In 1977 the Alnwick Branch became a separate organisation in its own right and it continues to flourish as a small but active society. |

Meetings |
Alnwick Pipers' Society has regular monthly meetings/playing sessions throughout the year. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month (except August) in the Plough Hotel, Bondgate Without, Alnwick, starting at 8.00 pm. Members of the public can attend to watch and listen. Visiting players are very welcome, particularly if they can play in concert F pitch! For details of our meetings, performances and other APS events go to the APS diary. |
