Change of Venue and Meeting date

The Society will now meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Farriers Arms Shilbottle, Alnwick

Since its inception as an independent Piping Society in 1977, Alnwick Pipers’ Society has always held their monthly meetings in one of the many ‘hostelries’ within the town.
Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond the control of the Society this practice will now come to an end as the Society prepares to meet for the first time in the Farriers Arms, Shilbottle, Alnwick
The Society has become the victim of the increase in popularity of Alnwick as a place to visit, (it appears that the best-kept secret of Northumberland’s beauty has now escaped and people are more aware of our existence.)

Like any business, the hostelries through out the town, which have in the past afforded the society their hospitality have to cater for the increase in tourism and as such we have now had to relocate for our monthly meeting.

The Society would like to thank publicly all those licensees who have supported the society in the past and wish them all well for the future.

Not only has the venue changed but also the meeting night. The Society will now meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month commencing at 7.30pm on 27th August 2008.

For anyone unfamiliar with the location of Shilbottle it is (when travelling from the North) approximately 2 mile south of Alnwick to the left of the A1 Road. To those approaching from the South, after travelling the length of the Felton by pass follow the A1 road as it climbs towards Alnwick, Shilbottle is adequately sign posted off to the right.
All will be assured of a warm welcome.

NEWS

August 2010

The Alnwick Gathering Committee is once again organising a fund raising evening in support of this years Gathering. The event which will feature local artists will be held in The Farriers Arms  at Shillbottle on Sunday 8th August starting at 8pm.   This will, if going on past evenings, be an evening not to be missed so come early and enjoy an evening of music song and comedy.

May 2010.

As web site manager, on behalf of Alnwick Pipers Society may I apologise to anyone who accessed the web site during April and May 2010 and whose computer programme became contaminated as the result  of accessing the site.  Unfortunately the site had been the victim of an attack and become contaminated by an unknown 'outside agent'. The site has now been given a 'clean' status by Google and we once again apologise for any inconvenience caused.

February 2010

Like the rest of the world the members of Alnwick Pipers Society were shocked by the events in Haiti and decided to take some positive action to help the victims of the disaster's.  A fund raising concert was held in Alnwick Playhouse on the 5th February 2010 the proceeds of which were to be donated to the Haiti appeal.  The Society ably assisted by Adrian Ions with his marionette, the energetic Monkseaton Morris Men, Fiddleszonely, a group of local fiddlers from within the society, the fine singing of Malcolm Bennett and Avril Huntley provided an evening of traditional music song and dance the whole concert being in the hands of the compare for the evening Mr Alex Swailes.

June 27th 2009

As part of the celebrations of the Hotspur Festival members of the Alnwick Pipers' Society will be joined by pipers from Robson's Choice and together will provide some of the musical entertainment for the festival.   The combined group will at 12 noon be part of a parade from The Alnwick Gardens, via Bondgate within to the Market Place where they will play traditional Northumbrian music from 2pm to 3 pm.

Diary

A revue of the Bands function within the Society is at present underway particularly with regard to representation of the Society and rehearsals.   When the new policy is decided upon the web site will be updated accordingly  (28/2/2008)
