Change of Venue and Meeting date
Since its inception as an independent Piping
Society in 1977, Alnwick Pipers’ Society has always held their monthly
meetings in one of the many ‘hostelries’ within the town.
Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond the control of the Society this
practice will now come to an end as the Society prepares to meet for the
first time in the Farriers Arms, Shilbottle, Alnwick
The Society has become the victim of the increase in popularity of Alnwick
as a place to visit, (it appears that the best-kept secret of
Northumberland’s beauty has now escaped and people are more aware of our
existence.)
Like any business, the hostelries through out the town, which have in the
past afforded the society their hospitality have to cater for the increase
in tourism and as such we have now had to relocate for our monthly meeting.
The Society would like to thank publicly all those licensees who have
supported the society in the past and wish them all well for the future.
Not only has the venue changed but also the meeting night. The Society will
now meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month commencing at 7.30pm on 27th
August 2008.
For anyone unfamiliar with the location of Shilbottle it is (when travelling
from the North) approximately 2 mile south of Alnwick to the left of the A1
Road. To those approaching from the South, after travelling the length of
the Felton by pass follow the A1 road as it climbs towards Alnwick,
Shilbottle is adequately sign posted off to the right.
All will be assured of a warm welcome.
(Date of entry 22nd July 2008)
